I received many comments from LinkedIn members regarding my opinion that ChatGPT AI from OpenAI has made Meta’s pursuit of the Metaverse irrelevant, and that sooner rather than later, Meta would pivot away from the metaverse to focus on AI. Some Linkedin members thought it would happen while others did not. Several associates from Meta reached out to me to state they hope Zuckerberg kills the metaverse; it’s surprising how unpopular the metaverse is inside Meta.

It happened. Several LinkedIn members sent me a link to the article, ‘Mark Zuckerberg Quietly Buries the Metaverse.’

Apparently, after losing $24B on pursuing the metaverse, and realizing the potential of AI to disrupt Meta, Zuckerberg did indeed pivot towards AI. According to the article,

“We’re creating a new top-level product group at Meta focused on generative AI to turbocharge our work in this area,” Zuckerberg said in a Feb. 27 post on Facebook.

“We’re starting by pulling together a lot of the teams working on generative AI across the company into one group focused on building delightful experiences around this technology. …

“In the short term, we’ll focus on building creative and expressive tools,” he wrote. “Over the longer term, we’ll focus on developing AI personas that can help people in a variety of ways.”

I believe Zuckerberg made the right decision. Do I think the metaverse is actually dead within Meta? No. I anticipate that some development will continue but it will be much narrower and significantly scaled back. I’ve written several posts on Meta and in each I raised concerns that Zuckerberg should have created a private company, Meta, and left Facebook alone.

The developments inside Meta are quite interesting and I’ll continue following the story.

I also received many questions about 345 Global and if I actually believe it can be as disruptive as ChatGPT? Yes, within the realm of the global retail industry and within the realm of supply chain analysis, 345 Global will be as disruptive as ChatGPT.

I strongly encourage everyone to follow Mark Edwards, the founder of 345 Global, and also to follow 345 Global to stay on top of what the company is doing. I don’t have permission to reveal the companies that have approached 345 Global other than to state they are the largest retailers and CPG companies globally, nor can I reveal certain details of their software other than to state their software, especially their AI, AR, and digital twin capability, is the best in the world.

Stay tuned for more about 345 Global.
